AWM Workshop for Women Graduate Students and Recent PhDs
SIAM Annual Meeting
Boston, MA, July 2006

Workshop Program

Monday, July 10

AWM Workshop: Staying on Top of your Game in Research and Teaching
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Room: Stuart - CC

This minisymposium will feature talks in relation to keeping your focus in your research and teaching responsibilities. Talks will address organization of your research time in a teaching job, grant writing, steps to progressing to an NSF rotating position, and transitions to other responsibilities. Such issues should be of interest to mathematicians at various career levels.

Organizer: Suzanne M. Lenhart, University of Tennessee
                 K. Renee Fister, Murray State University
                 Kristen Moore, University of Michigan
Jennifer K. Ryan, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University

4:00-4:25 Juggling Eggs
Sigal Gottlieb, Brown University

4:30-4:55 Smooth Transitions and Turbulence: Shifts Between Professor and Administrator
Mary Ann Horn, Vanderbilt University and National Science Foundation

5:00-5:25 Developing a Commonsensical Approach to Academic Career
Smadar Karni, University of Michigan

5:30-5:55 Playing the Game: What I Have Learned
