AWM Teacher Partnership Guidelines

The purpose of the partnership is for colleagues to work together, be it in the form of a discussion on curricular matters, a mathematical topic of mutual interest, a plan for action, an idea that needs funding, or a teaching project. It is up to the participants to decide on the level of their partnering, which may range from email exchanges to joint work or activities in each other’s classes.

In forming the AWM Teacher Partnership, we also recognize that participants come from different communities with different educational backgrounds, sometimes with diverse perspectives.

Participants will find that sometimes we speak different languages, or use the same words with different meanings. We need to take care in listening to each other and ask for elaborations when meanings are unclear to us.

Different communities have different work environments, function in different cultures, and develop a different sense of what is important. While talking with each other, we need to respect these disparities and not devalue what others value; of course discussion is welcome. Indeed, progress can only be made by open discussions.

Please be audacious in joining this partnership and cautious in forging a road towards cooperation. The challenge is real, the reward fulfilling, and the benefit to students is tangible.

To participate, please fill in the "Request a Partner" form. After you submit the form, we will make every effort to match you with a partner with compatible interests. We will then inform the partners of the match and expect them to contact each other to make general agreements on how they will conduct their partnership. We suggest that partners communicate regularly. In the event that you need to leave the program, please contact the organizers.
